Hello and thank you for listening to my album, Gamingly Yours.
Over the last few years, I’ve created music and sound design cues for over 40 video games and electronic toys, and was thrilled with the honor of having the pirate ship in Doubloons Ahoy named The Bonny Morgan!
I love video games and feel privileged to create audio elements for them. I decided to curate an album of music and sound design from some of these games. All of the songs and sound design cues on this album were created for and used in video games, with the exception of two which were spec versions for games that were not used.
“Gamingly Yours” is my third installment of music albums, each its own adventure. The first is Acoustically Yours, which features me singing and playing acoustic guitar, and was recorded in an analog studio. The second is Digitally Yours, for which I produced electronic and avant garde styles of music with hardly any vocals. This album has had success as a platinum streaming album with over one million streams. Songs from it were licensed by CNN Weekends for two consecutive years and included on several compilation albums by various publishers. With Gamingly Yours, I wanted to create a snapshot of a period of time in a music artist’s life, to commemorate my wonderful experience working in game audio.
I gratefully thank all of the game developers who chose me to work on their awesome games! I thank my awesome mom for always believing in me and telling me that I could do anything. I thank my incredible husband and business partner for helping me along my musical journey and also for making the contacts which led to getting these video game gigs! Additionally, I want to thank my agent, Gloria Soto at the Max Steiner Agency in Hollywood, for adding me to her roster of incredible talent! I want to thank the spirit of computers and most specifically the Mac. My experience working with Mac computers and the way they have helped open the door to more kinds of music production for me can not be overstated. I LOVE MY MAC!
We had trouble assigning this album a genre as no two video games are truly alike and the themes of each game or level dictated the kind of music I chose to create. Some of the songs are more sophisticated and electronic, whereas some are quite simple with just a few beats looped around some atmospheric elements.
The nature of video game music is that you don’t want the music to distract from the game. Also, these audio pieces loop indefinitely, so you don’t want the hooks to be so memorable or catchy that they draw attention to the repeating track. At the same time, they must not be boring or annoying. You have to take into consideration that you are in competition with mute mode. Ha, but not ha.
I get a lot of inspiration from the games themselves. I like to see the characters or artwork from the games first if possible. Even concept sketches or a color scheme helps! Conversely, I’ve been told that my audio helped the artists to define the art style of a game, so inspiration flows both ways.
I take every game to heart and try to create audio that I love and appropriate for each game. I really enjoy and feel honored to be a part of these wonderful games.
Thank YOU for listening and giving these songs new life!
